For those of you don’t know, Bremelanotide is generic term for a new medication for use in treating sexual dysfunction in men (erectile dysfunction or impotence) as well as sexual dysfunction in women (sexual arousal disorder). It is the only known synthetic aphrodisiac. It is undergoing phase 3 trials and has proven to be very effective.
Many are concerned that this drug could be misused as a "date rape" drug or to coerce unknowing individuals to have sex. Do you think the campaign against it will be successful?
From what I’ve read it does not impair the mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning, but it does cause a rise in arousal.

If it is undergoing phase 3 trials, there does not seem to be any fundamental concern – approval will only be withheld if unexpected side effects turn up, which nobody can rule out at this point.
Abuse: Many drugs can be abused for date rape and other purposes, so that alone is not a reason for not approving a drug.
