In my experience both my partners and my ability to climax is largely based on state of mind. I don’t aim to diminish the raw, physical nature of sex, but a lot of times it seems like my girlfriend can only get off if all the right mental factors are aligned (please no jokes about my sexual prowess or lack thereof). But also for myself, as a man, I would be unable to perform if I was distraught about one thing or another regardless of overt physical stimulation. Do you get this too?

Sex therapists probably have a lot to say about this – it might be something about letting go, concentrating on the moment or (neurology) potentiation of the neuronal signals that increase firing rate (lower the threshold, in effect)
However, I feel it’s important to note orgasms can happen when you wouldn’t want them to: one of the greatest causes of distress to some rape victems is that they climaxed during the rape, despite not wishing it to happen and fighting against the attacker. There is probably a lot of individual difference between the level of excitiation in people.

That’s completely normal, especially for women.

For me sex at an older age has become more psychological, don’t get me wrong a physical attraction is there also. When I was younger it was just as you say the raw nature of sex, and I will admit most times the psychological part was not there. Now I must admit that it is important to me to have that psychological connection, to know that who you are with cares for you and they are getting just as much pleasure as you are. Hope this helps.

Sex is more between the ears than between the legs. It is called love.

Don’t be alarmed by this. It’s really normal for a person in a relationship. Sex is really 65% mental and 35% physical. Unless you are doing it with a "Jump Off" or "Midnight Creep" you can’t have sex with you partner unless everything is picture perfect.
Cause I know the thought process in my head is that I am making love with the woman that is everything to me. And when something is wrong my thought process changes and I am thinking, "This B**ch made me miss wrestling!" So it hard for me to perform because I am thinking about what happen to get me mad, and I am mad with the person I am laying down with.

Sure, but it can also be affected by a stretched clitoris from childbirth that doesn’t "resist" enough to maintain arousal…
but, generally even for masturbation, it’s a good part psycho… [fantasy]
