Is it ok to lie to the doctor about sexual activity?

Mon, Jan 4, 2010

General

Few days back, I had major pain in my left ball. It was so bad that I had to go to the doctor. He said it was an infection and gave me anti biotics. THen after a week when the pain had gone away I went to the doctor again and he asked me "Are you sexually active"? And I said NO but in fact I am. He said over and over gain "Are you sure"? And I kept on denying it so he just left it alone. Was it ok to lie about it or not?

It is never a good idea to lie to your doctor about anything. They are there to help you, not judge you, so don’t be afraid to be completely honest. He may have given you reasoning behind your infection and tips to prevent it from happening again. Maybe he though it was an STI. Who knows.

I have no medical knowledge but I would assume in this case it’s nothing to freak over, but be sure to be honest with your doctor from now on.

you should never lie to your doctor. He/she is the only person you should be completely honest with, he probably knows you were lying though.

No it wasn’t. He’s a doctor, he knows what he’s doing and he’s doing it for your health. Dx

I wouldn’t. He or she has heard and seen everything and their job is to prevent pain and conditions from developing.
