Hello. My son is leaving for the Peace Corps soon to Africa. I overheard him and a few friends talking about having sex with natives while there.
Were they joking?
Will his sexual health be at risk?
I know PCV’s have a lot of free time on their hands.

Young men joke about sex a lot.
Given the AIDS rate in Africa, if he is smarter than a doorknob he will be extremely careful.
Some PCVs hire women as a matter of course.
Some get a girlfriend, either native or expatriate.
Some stay relatively chaste the whole time. At that age he’ll be having a wet dream every two weeks or so, if the pressure builds. He may give his hormonal system a hand, so to speak, to keep from walking around with an erection all day.

The good ones work 60 hours a week.

There’s nothing you can do to stop him, short of castrating him. Let him make his own decisions and mistakes, he’s old enough to be in the Peace Corps then he’s old enough for you to cut the umbilical cord already. I think it’s weird you’re worried about his sex life in the first place.

No they aren’t joking. African women are gorgeous.
Each country in African varies in its HIV infection rate.
In his training he will be given all the necessary facts about HIV/AIDS.
Like most Peace Corps Volunteers he will probably have sex while he is over there. Whether thats with other volunteers or locals that’s up to him.
Yes his sexual health will be at risk but that’s true anywhere. But more so of couse in Africa.
You know your son so if he’s not a total idiot he’ll come back healthy.
