SSRIs and delayed orgasm/sexual dysfunction?

Tue, Nov 17, 2009

General

Has anyone found anything that works to help reverse the sexual side effects of SSRIs? My doctor told me that buspirone (Buspar) could help; also, ginko biloba or ginseng. I know there are other meds that work for some as well.

I pretty much need my Zoloft but am only 19 and a virgin. It’s depressing in itself to think that my sex life will forever suck.

man….you’ll be the star once you meet a girl. forty…fifty…sixty minutes without blowing your wad? and you think it’s a bad thing? most guys blew it within minutes on their first time. you’ll just impress her.

many guys take SSRIs for that exact purpose. it’s actually prescribed for men with premature ejaculation.

but if you’re having problems with impotence or anorgasmia (not able to ejaculate at all) then maybe you can work with your doctor to try other similar SSRIs.

your sex life will not suck.
I’ve been on two antidepressants since I was 16. I’m now 22, married, and have a fabulous sex life. I do sometimes have a decreased libido, but it seems to go in cycles, and sometimes I can’t get enough (tmi?).
There may be a different drug that could help you without causing the side effects. Have you asked about that possiblity?

Okay, the lack of libido side effect doesn’t last forever!!! I have been on SSRI’s since I was 16 (19 years). I have two kids and a good libido. I did ask if there was anything I could take more than 10 years ago, but my doc would not give me anything else. Just wait, soon the side effect wears off, especially after you meet someone you REALLY want to be with!

Also, if you choose to go on a med of some type, please, please check http://www.rxlist.com for sode effcts, indications, etc. This list even includes OTC drugs.
