Unsatisfying orgasms and arousal issues (female)?

Over the past six months or so I’ve noticed a change in my orgasms, where instead of feeling pleasurable, it just feels like muscle contractions, leaving me unsatisfied and frustrated. I’ve begun seeing a new partner, and we’ve both noticed that I have trouble getting and staying aroused. I’ve never had to use lube before, but now it’s absolutely necessary. I can only go for ten minutes or so before I no longer feel like continuing. It’s extremely frustrating for both of us, and the fact that he can’t bring me to orgasm really upsets him. We’ve tried oral, digital, and using a toy on my clitoris, and each time I can only go for a few minutes before I either become too sore or disinterested.

I am on the antidepressant Celexa for an anxiety disorder, and the Ortho Evra birth control patch, both of which have the possibility of having arousal issues, however, I’ve been on both for over a year with only minimal side effects.

It’s getting to the point where I am so frustrated I’m considering of going off one or both of my medications. Is it probable that one or the other, or the combination of the two, is causing this, or is it just a phase? I’ve heard ginko pills can help counteract the sexual side effects of antidepressants, but haven’t tried them myself, are there any other over the counter remedies that you could recommend?

What will be the standard of care?

I’m so excited that soon we will be able to treat theists instead of imprisoning them, as is required by current US law. This will be so much more humane. So what do you think the standard of care will be? Antipsychotics augmented with antidepressants? Chemical castration (since religion is a sexual perversion)? ECT? Transcranial magnetic stimulation?

What do you envision?

Has anyone taken antidepressants and had problems because of them?

I am interested to know about people’s experience with sadness, what they done about this problem, if they taken antidepressants or not, and why.
I am very sad all the time, and can’t sleep.
I was thinking about going to my family doctor to ask him to give me some medicine that would make me feel less sad and make me to fall asleep at night… But I read on the internet that antidepressants cause side effects like: sexual dysfunctions, dry mouth, insomnia, low blood pressure (I already got insomnia and low blood pressure… I don’t want to get other things on top of those…)
I was thinking about taking antidepressants for a few days… but do they work if I take them just for 5 or 7 days?

What did you do (or some people you know) with depression? Have you (or the person you know with depression) come out of depression in a satisfying way?

I want to ask one more important question, but there’s no more space, wait a minute until I write it on a next page.
For 6 months or more I am terribly sad especially at night, when I can’t sleep.
My results in faculty have dropped very much because of this (because I’m too bored and sad to be interested to read the stuff for the exams)…
Will antidepressants help me be interested in school-work and sports again?
Or not? If not, then what should I take or do or pursue?
Yes, I have been staying all the time in the house, and I’ve had little or no interaction with other people lately… Just seeing certain people makes appalls me (because they are not interested in me etc… and of course it has to do with sex also, because it is one of the things that we need in life…)

Can antidepressants cause genital numbness? Please help.?
I have been on effexor for 3 months and STOPPED a year ago. Since then I find that my penis has become insensitive to sexual stimulation. I can still get erections, but the "sensations" are not the same. Any advice? Or has anyone experienced genital numbness with antidepressants or after stopping them? I’m worried my sensitivity will never return. I’ve been to docs they say its "in my head." or they cant help me.

do all antidepressants have the same side effects on the same person?

Ive been prescribed Luvox (fluvoxamine) for social anxiety. but after taking it for a few days i’ve already developed sexual dysfunction and some other minor side effects. I know that antidepressants affect everyone differently, but I’d like to get some opinions anyway. I’ve taken Zoloft, Wellbutrin, and Effexor. Zoloft was AWFUL (severe weight gain, drowsiness, sexual dysfunction, and an overall zombie-like feeling). I’m allergic to both Wellbutrin and Effexor (which is unfortunate, since I really liked Wellbutrin for the 2 weeks I was able to take it).

I’ve had food issues for years and have been diagnosed with bulimia, which is why I really can’t take anything that’s going to make me want to stuff my face constantly (like Zoloft did). I don’t think I need to explain why I want something with a low incidence of sexual side effects =^P

I have talked to my doctor about this on several occasions, but doctors seem to think side effects are more rare than they truly are.

Is there ANY antidepressant out there that won’t make me fat and destroy my sex life? Has anyone had any good experiences?

I would really appreciate some input. Thanks! =^)

What might cause this kind of sexual dysfunction in a young woman?

Only one nipple of her nipples will become erect at a time. For a stint, they were both inverting and this is very abnormal for her (they always protruded before). She also has periodic itching in her vulva, but has tested negative for all STDs.

She can no longer have orgasms, whereas she has them readily before by clitoral or vaginal simulation. She says she has little to no feeling in her vagina now. This has been going on for 2 years and all doctors have been unhelpful with their diagnoses or lack thereof.

She was on birth control for a month. Could this be the culprit, or something worse? She has all but given up hope. I love her dearly and want her to be well, full of the vim and vigor she once was. Please help, if you can. We would be eternaly grateful.

I neglected to mention that in fact, she has had periodic tingling in her extremities, but she did undergo a neurologic exam and MRI (brain) and they ruled her neuropathy/paresthesia idiopathic (no known cause). We don’t think it’s MS. She has anemia, thalassemia to be exact, but it has never been problematic before now.
Lisa C, Thank you for your good wishes. She is twenty-one years old. She has apparently exhausted all of the standard testing, hormonal blood testing included.

She has never been on antidepressants of any kind, nor has she had any surgeries. What she did have, however, around the time her symptoms started to appear, was a single Gardasil shot.

She has sensation (she can feel fingers down there), but none of it is pleasurable. She also had a longtime bacterial vaginosis which was never accounted for and a disrupted vaginal PH.

We will beseech the help of a urogynecologist, and ,failing that, a sex therapist. Thank you so much for all your suggestions.

Hey all,
I am now feeling the good effects of taking celeca at 10mg for about a week now. Im not necessarily happy, but im not neccessarily sad anymore. Im kinda right inbetween. I am supposed to bump my dose up to 20 mg in 2 days and am kinda concerned…. Im sure going to 20 mg will finish off my depression symptoms, but I have already experienced the sexual side effects of 10 mg a day. 1) I have an extremely hard time getting an erection. 2) I have a harder (not impossible) time reaching orgasm. I cant call my doctor till wednesday because shes on vacation, but I was wondering people’s suggestions. Should I stay at 10 mg until I talk to her? should I head up to 20 mg like she said to? Do these sexual side effects usually diminsh once ur body adapts to the medicine?
Depression runs in my family as my mom and both sisters have depression and have been taking medicine their whole lives. I never experienced any depression, until this last year when I experienced an illness that caused tremendous pain that the doctors said they couldn’t do anythying about. I got over the illness but my depression never went away. Do you think mine is temporary or perminent? Either way im ready to face the challenge.
