I am an MD. There are several reasons for this. The most obvious is that as the bladder expands, there is a rise in parasympathetic nerve tone, which enhances the likelihood of erection. Evacuating the bladder into the toilet usually alleviates this situation. There are several other reasons as well. Your male sex hormone levels peak in the AM for some reason, making erection more likely. And lastly, normal males have erections with every dream, regardless of the content of said dream. You are most likely to awaken in the AM when you are completing your last dream for the night, whether you remember said dream or not, (most people do not remember most of their dreams), at which time you will notice the presence of an erection, left over from that dream that you just forgot. I hope this helps.
