Happy belated Thanksgiving everyone. My question is this: I’ve been taking Effexor XR at 75 milligrams for the past 3 weeks and it seems that during sex, when and IF I orgasm, I barely even feel it! It’s almost like, "woah, I just came"? The feelings of pleasure are absolutely gone and this really distresses me because this used to be a stress relieving activity of mine. Will this ever go away? When I was on Paxil CR it took about 3 months but the sexual dysfunction eventually went away entirely. Please let me know from either personal experience or otherwise. Thanks.

I’m a 21 year old male by the way and it sucks that I have to go through this at this age…
I can only take meds like SSRI’s and SNRI’s because I also have OCD that if I don’t treat drives me CRAZY!!!! So Wellbutrin won’t work for me unfortunately. Would Viagra be an option? I know that helps with erectile dysfunction, and that’s not the problem, the problem is I the achieving orgasm and actually feeling it.

Well this may be TMI, but I hope it answers your question. I started on the meds at 17, right before I started having sex for the first time. So I never had an orgasim, sex was fun but I didn’t get one, It was like" what’s the big deal with this"…then, when I got off the stuff at 20…OMG. First orgasm, I had multiple, I swear I counted like 15! And I’ve only had sex with one guy ever so it’s not like it was a different partner. I had never had one so I didn’t even know what one was until I was off the meds. Now I don’t take anti-depressants, I found that Ritalin and the mood stablizer, Lamictal works much better. And on these, I have fantastic Orgasms! So yes the meds are screwing you up…so you can’t screw.

there are other meds that don’t have this effect or you can get a second med to offset this effect. go to effexor.com and see your doc about this, apparently, it’s very common with antidepressants. Wellbutrin doesn’t do that, but has it’s own side effects of dec appetite, inc awakeness/alertness/insomnia and constipation….

I would speak to you doctor about trying something else. There are lots of options.
Zoloft messed with me, I just couldn’t orgasm, and I know someone else it did it to as well. But then another friend was fine, it depends on your system.
I can’t remember what it was but my husband was on one where he could, but it took forever! Not in a good way either LOL
